About Us
What We Believe
The Bible is the basis for all of our essential beliefs.
These are the core convictions, rooted in Scripture, that shape who we are as a church and how we follow Jesus together.
What is the Bible?
The Bible is the inspired word of God. It is without error in its original manuscripts and contains everything we need to know about having a right relationship with God and our fellow human beings. The Bible is the basis for all of our essential beliefs. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Who is God?
God is one (Mark 12:29), yet mysteriously exists in three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who are to be equally loved, honored and surrendered to. (Matthew 28:19)
Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is the sole Mediator able to restore the broken relationship and the resulting alienation, between God and humanity. He is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is God, the third Person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is alive and active, indwelling followers of Christ and working in unison with the Word of God to guide them in all truth. He provides the power that enables Christians to live as new creations in Christ and empowers believers for service. (John 16:7-14; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 6:17)
What about people?
People are created by God and in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). All people must be treated with love (Matthew 22:39). At the same time, all people are born into sin (Romans 3:23) and can only be redeemed through God's loving, gracious and saving intervention. As the image of God, we are most alive when our trust, affections and allegiances center on Him. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1)
What about mission?
Restoration between God and people, also called salvation, happens when the Holy Spirit gives people a new heart, leading and enabling them to trust in Jesus alone for salvation (John 1:12-13). Because God loves His creation, He will also restore the entire universe to a condition of beauty, rest, joy, perfection and freedom. God's world, which began as a promising Garden, will find its fulfillment in a perfected, life-giving City in which there will be no more death, mourning, crying or pain. (Romans 8:18-30; Revelation 21:1-8)
What about good works?
Good works do not and cannot make us acceptable to God (Ephesians 2:8-9), but are the natural outcome of authentic faith in Jesus. (James 2:17)
What is the Church?
The Church is the family of God and consists of those who place their functional trust (faith) in Jesus. God wants all members of His worldwide Church, together with their children, to be active in a local church which meets regularly to worship God, serve each other and be a life-giving presence in their local community and world. (Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25)
Additional Beliefs
When does life begin?
We believe the Bible teaches that God is the ultimate source and sustainer of all human life and that human life begins at the moment of conception. As a result, all human life is to be respected and valued as God's sacred work from conception to the grave and should be preserved and protected in a manner consistent with biblical ethics. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 1:5)
What about gender identity?
We believe God created human beings as biologically male or female and this gender distinction continues through the natural process of biological reproduction (Genesis 1:27; 5:1-3). Jesus affirms this gender distinction in the New Testament. We deny that physical anomalies or psychological conditions nullify the God-appointed link between biological sex and self-conception as male or female. (Matthew 19:4; Mark 10:6)
What about marriage?
We believe the Bible upholds God's definition of marriage. From the beginning of mankind's existence, God established marriage as the union of one man and one woman (Genesis 2:18-23). This model for marriage is exclusively maintained and endorsed throughout the Bible. Unions beyond the confines of this definition do not constitute biblical marriage. (Matthew 19:4; Ephesians 5:22-28)
What about sexuality and sexual behavior?
We believe the Bible is specific regarding God's design for human sexual behavior. Acceptable sexual behavior is exclusively reserved to occur within the confines of a monogamous marriage union of a consenting man and woman. Any sexual behavior outside of this relationship is outside of God's design for human sexuality as outlined in the Word of God. (Matthew 5:28; 1 Corinthians 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5)
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness."
